Carnegie Mellon University | Virtual Reality Experience
Nanotechnology Lab VR Training
The Claire and John Bertucci Nanotechnology Laboratory is a premier research facility in Western Pennsylvania and the βTech-Beltβ (PA-OH-WV) region. Located in Carnegie Mellon Universityβs Sherman and Joyce Bowie Scott Hall, the "Nanofab" houses more than 100 processing and characterization tools maintained by highly qualified technical staff members and is responsible for more than $10M/year in cutting-edge research.
To keep pace with the evolving training needs, Carnegie Mellon University Nanotechnology Lab has worked with our team to blend innovative technology and instructional design principles by adding Virtual Reality to its laboratory training and workforce development toolbox.
Our Approach
The effectiveness of Virtual Reality Training depends on the quality of the training being offered. Research shows four critical things are needed for any successful training experience, virtual or otherwise: realistic practice, spaced repetitions, contextualized scenarios, and critical feedback.
Immersive experiences brings trainees closer to the real-world experiences without exposing them to real-world dangers. VR for training combines the potential of both experimental learning and fully customized, interactive environment - providing your workforce with an engaging, exciting, and memorable experience, which boosts their knowledge retention to maximum.
Interact in 360
In crafting the highest-quality 360 videos, incorporating spatial audio and special effects plays a crucial role in the immersive nature of any virtual reality course. However, what truly elevates the experience to new heights is the manner in which users engage with the content. Whether it's through straightforward button selections or through more intricate interactions, mastering this aspect is key. This is where our expertise in Interaction Design comes into play, ensuring that every interaction within the virtual environment is intuitive, engaging, and enriching for the learner.
Testimonial
βThe VR Experience is much better than a regular video because you can pan around and feel the depth of the space. It provides a realistic illustration of the Nanofab spaces.β
